A Rustic and Modern Look at Taxidermy

While I enjoy the rustic and bold look of a giant moose head in front of a beautiful stone wall (shown above), I certainly know that not everyone feels the same way as I do.  In fact, most despise taxidermy!

If you’re one of the many who do not particularly care for a once-real animal head hanging over your mantle, then maybe this new taxidermy-like look is for you…

One – It’s artificial. So no animals we harmed in making this modern piece of wall decor.  Two – it’s much smaller and less bulky than the real thing so it won’t look too heavy and weigh your space down and three – you can find them in many different colors, textures and styles so you’re bound to find something you like!

Bottom line: these faux animal heads are fun and can pull together any space!

Upcoming Colors for 2012

The colors of 2011 are gradually fading into the distant past as we approach the new trends in color for 2012.

For review, the colors of 2011 were:

  • grays
  • purples
  • mauves
  • creams

Accents were done in jewel tones such as:

  • bright turquoise
  •  ruby
  • tangerine

Rule of thumb: Accents should always be done in jewel tones, some colors are just more popular per year than others.

For 2012, we are noticing greens such as:

  • olive green
  • dark green.

White seems to have overridden cream this coming year and deep purple and deep blue seem to embellish many tables.  It’s gorgeous! As far as accents, the bright turquoise of last year is fading into a pale light blue.  Tons of accents with silver, both shiny and polished nickel are adorning the tablescapes.

Accents:

  • pale light blue
  • silver
  • shiny and polished nickel

The common object for décor is glassware.  Glass that is colored offers dimension because of its variation in color.  Frank found a clear glass plate with swirls of white in a circular pattern and the edges trimmed in silver.  Simple, but it was beautiful and it was just glass!
