Basements
Basements are, often times and unfortunately the forgotten space beneath our feet. Quite simply, it is either neglected or used as a dumping ground for household junk or seasonal items. However, what many people don’t realize is that their basement, once finished, can provide you with a new exciting living area or any of a multitude of other uses that you might have in mind. Yet, you can still preserve enough storage space to meet your needs and increase the value of your home. It’s a “win-win” situation. Not to mention, the basement is the most economical space to remodel because the cost of the foundation is already in place.
This homeowner’s goal was to achieve efficiency and organization within their basement to meet the needs of their active family of nine. Previously, their basement had been partially finished with a living room area and a small space to accommodate a combined spare bedroom when needed and a home school classroom, while all other areas in the basement had remained unfinished.
To accommodate their growing family needs, FEP began the remodel process by working closely with them on a design to add a warm and functional space to their already beautiful home. After the design process was complete, FEP began by moving the hot water tanks and some HVAC duct work to provide more useable space. Next, we framed walls, insulated and installed drywall to create a computer friendly work stationed classroom, used for homeschooling their children. This room included furniture grade custom cabinetry, countertops, electrical outlets for their necessary equipment, lighting, acoustical tile ceilings installed throughout, and a custom made book shelf unit installed to match the furniture grade custom cabinetry . Work stations were built around the custom cabinetry for each child to complete their class work and a play area was created within the same room for the younger children. Custom made closet style storage cabinets were fashioned from floor to ceiling for specific needs and enclosed with new smooth raised panel doors which were also hung throughout the basement to match the first and second floors along with trim moldings to create a finished space which does not feel like you’re in a basement. The existing finished small space which was previously used to accommodate a combined spare bedroom and a home school room was modified into a spacious bedroom with a very generous sized walk in-closet and custom shelving. Finally, carpet was installed throughout the basement and the finishing touches of fresh paint were added to walls and trims.
We would like to thank these homeowners for selecting us to complete their project. It was a pleasure bringing to fruition their desire for a more organized and efficient basement.
